Cask Time: 36 meses
The vineyards providing grapes for this wine are made up of 95% Tempranillo, and 5% between Graciano and Mazuelo.
This was a legendary vintage, thanks to the exceptional evolution of the vegetative cycle and outstanding climatic conditions which gave rise to an ideal ripening process. The grapes were selected prior to vinification, which was according to the traditional Rioja method of total destemming and fermentation at a controlled temperature of no more than 30º C. It, then, spent 2 years in American oak casks with racking every six months. The whole of the ageing process, both in the cask and in the bottle, took place in the 17th century cellars, at a constant temperature of 11º.
TASTING NOTES
The wine displays a ruby-red colour with a brick-red rim and very well covered. Attractively bright and clear. A clean, honest nose of good intensity, displaying a lot of complexity, with fruit and balsamic aromas with spices and leather hints coming through.
Very well structured in the mouth, meaty and velvety, but powerful with fullness and character, with good, harmoniously integrated tannins. Complex, elegant and very fresh in the retro nasal phase, long and very persistent and particularly round
A great wine.
